Which Came First?
Like the proverbial “chicken or egg” analogy, one may wonder: is CFS with or without Fibromyalgia primarily an Immune Dysfunction ( manifesting as frequent infections and/or multiple allergies and sensitivities) or Gut Dysfunction or is it triggered by Nutritional or Environmental Factors then whichever came first through chain of events one thing led to another and then to another? Whatever the case, suffice it to say that the person with CFS and/or Fibromyalgia or Subsyndromal CFS (meaning someone with chronic fatigue who did not meet the the full criteria for Diagnosis of CFS but can be just as incapacitated if not disabled by fatigue and associated conditions) would end up miserably enduring a vast array of symptoms. Invariably they tend to have multiple problems involving all of the above. Sadly, the sufferers usually get only partial treatment/s, only for the one/s that may be most problematic at the time. Reputable holistic health practitioners have evidence-based proofs that full and lasting recovery is possible as long as all of the co-existing conditions are being addressed and treated accordingly and adequately.
To illustrate, read what Dr. Teitelbaum has written( in his website) about Immune Dysfunction:
“Have Chronic Fatigue Syndrome, Fibromyalgia, or even sinusitis or spastic colon? You probably have overgrowth of yeast or Candida. Though poorly understood by most physicians, treating this underlying infection can have profound health benefits!
Immune dysfunction (i.e., being more susceptible to infections) is a common part of both Fibromyalgia and CFS, and is becoming more common in the overall population as well. In earlier articles, we have discussed how to diagnose and treat chronic viral and antibiotic sensitive infections. The most common and important infections to treat in CFS and Fibromyalgia are yeast, fungal and Candida infections (I will treat these as a single infection for this article). Unfortunately, standard medicine does not recognize fungal infections unless they affect the nails, skin, hair or groin areas—or they are in the blood and can kill you. Because there is no test to clearly diagnose overgrowth of bowel or sinus Candida, many doctors say it doesn’t exist. Reminds me of the little boy who thinks he’s invisible because he’s covered his eyes…
That there is no blood test does not mean there is no way to tell if you need treatment. I recommend the Candida/yeast/fungal treatment for most people who have ANY of the below problems:
- CFS/ Fibromyalgia—As I have discussed in lectures to thousands of health practitioners, if someone has CFS/FMS, presume the Candida is present and treat for it.
- Chronic sinusitis—which is usually caused by yeast.
- Spastic colon/irritable bowel syndrome.
When you treat the yeast as we’ll discuss, not only does the CFS/FMS usually improve, but the sinusitis and spastic colon will often go away as well. As fringe benefits, most of you will find (if you take the Diflucan medication part of the treatment) that your dandruff and feeling like you want to stick your finger in your ear to scratch it will also go away! “ Read more….
More than likely the person with CFS/Fibromyalgia is just being treated for whatever bacterial infections may be presenting at any given time and they are expected to keep happening until the offending organism (yeast or fungi) is eliminated.
The following are some of the conditions or illnesses that tend to co-exist with CFS or Fibromyalgia. No wonder, those afflicted are under the care of so many specialists!
- Myofascial pains
- Osteomalacia or pains of the bones which may be mistaken for Fibromyalgia pains
- Painful joints muscles or tendons
- Infectious Mono or Infectious Mononucleosis
- Lyme’s Disease
- Chronic sinusitis or sinus headache or sinus congestion
- Ear infections, frequent colds or strep throat or other upper respiratory infections
- recurrent urinary tract infections, fungal infections like
- chronic candidiasis
- yeast overgrowth or yeast syndrome
- food allergies or food sensitivities
- seasonal allergies
- environmental allergies or chemical sensitivities
- chronic asthma or asthmatic bronchitis
- interstitial cystitis
- glandular or endocrinologic problems
- adrenal fatigue or adrenal exhaustion,
- underactive thyroid or subtle hypothyroidism or subclinical hypothyroidism
- polycystic ovarian syndrome to name some of them
- Irritable Bowel Syndrome
- Inflammatory Bowel Diseases like Chron’s Disease
- spastic colon or “leaky gut” syndrome or Irritable Bowel Syndrome (IBS) and other malbasorption syndrome
- treatment resistant depression or anxiety disorder, or ADHD
- nutritional,ageing and environmental factors
Most sufferers of Fatiguing Illnesses including CFS, Fibromyalgia or Subsyndromal CFS (meaning the full criteria was not met for Diagnosis for CFS but just as incapacitated if not disabled by fatigue and associated conditions) mostly find themselves caught up in the Cycle of Frustration with the health care practitioners who could not make them well and therefore would tend to think that their underlying problems must be psychiatric in nature. Often they are misdiagnosed as having primarily mood or anxiety disorders like hypochondriasis or somatization disorders; very likely the mood or anxiety depressions may have resulted from the chain of events that led to deficiencies of the neurotransmitters in the brain of those with chronic fatiguing illnesses. CDC was alarmed that only 20 % of cased are being diagnosed when the key for prevention of Disability is early intervention . Read more…
